What would you do in the last days before the end of the world?

It’s been 3 years since  Lars Von Trier‘s Melancholia.

The Maya’s expected date for the end of the  world is gone, but there is something that continues to feel the need to tell the end of the world on the big screen.

It’s the Australian indie movie These Final Hours (here the trailer), written and directed by Zak Hilditch and produced by Liz Kearney.

A meteorite has crashed into the Earth and the world is going to the end.

In Perth there are just few surivors.

James, played by  a muscled and tattooed Nathan Phillips (Sneaks on a plane, Wolf Creek) is one of them.

He is inclined to wipe himself out with drugs and alcohol rather than face the deeper issues of existence. The first of this issue is the fact that one of his two girlfriends, Zoe played by Jessica de Gouw (Dracula, Arrow) is pregnant, and will have to endure the final meltdown on her own.

On his way to the party-to-end-all-parties on the last day on Earth, James ends up saving the life of a little girl Rose (the extraordinarily talented 12-year-old Angourie Ricesearching for her father.

Their relationship ultimately leads him on the path to redemption but…

The movie has already won The Age Critics’ Best Australian Feature Film Award.

The only release date is for the Australia on June 12th.
