King George is coming to town…Hamilton to open in London in 2017

It seems that London is getting the lead also on stage. In the last years the British film industry  has a hard time at the American, and if a theatrical level, London has always been the city of the theater; now also in the music is approaching the impressive world of Broadway.

After the announcement of the opening of DreamGirls starring Glee‘s star Amber Riley as Effie at the Savoy Theatre; this week there were other exciting announcements regarding our stages.

First of all, keeping in theme of Broadway, the hit musical that has impressed the American First Lady HAMILTON, will debut next year in the British capital.  Hamilton is a hip-hop musical about the life of the founding father. The Broadway producer Jeffrey Seller is working with British producer Cameron Mackintosh.

There are no reports on the possible cast; but Tony nominated Jonathan Groff (who plays King George) not only sent a message of congratulations to all his colleagues overseas for the Olivier Awards day last week (watch here the message); but, after bringing on stage in 2010 Deathtrap at the Noel Coward Theatre; last year was the protagonist of a wonderful evening at the Southbank Centre in a concert presentation of hit musical How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying so it would be a great honor to have him again in town.

Apparently, creator and star Lin Manuel Miranda has also expressed willingness to join the London cast: “We’re hoping it will happen sooner rather than later. My wife is always trying to get me to other countries so I would be honoured to open the show in London”.

Before Braodway opening, the cast made a wonderful venture called #Ham4Ham and, obviously, we want to see it also held to mark the opening in the West End!
